We arrived at JFK with a wind reduced time of just over 4 hours, and took the subway route into Manhattan. Virgin America is a decent airline, but the TV is limited, and you should really pack your own food if you don’t want to have to pay for your plane food. I suggest an order of Thai fried rice, but be careful of the fish sauce.
If you’re staying at the Westin Time Square i would highly recommend taking the airtrain to the E train, because it’ll drop you off right next to the hotel, and you don’t even need to cross the street. We upgraded our room and were on the 42 floor with a view of the street of Times Square. There’s a duane reade that we picked up water, soda, and snacks for the week, and plenty of food places all around the hotel.
We did some of the touristy things like on Thursday we spent the day visiting Ground Zero, the temporary memorials, and of course we took the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, and the New York skyline.
Friday we spent a few hours in Times Square, Rockefeller Center, 5th Ave, Central Park, and at least the outside of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Saturday we went down to Chelsea, the Flat Iron Building, SOHO, and spent the night in the mass of crowds that is Times Square at night.
Finally on Sunday we spent the entire day in Brooklyn and all its glory.
